Not from the Limerick Tourist Board

How could I resist a video which brought the Chairman of Limerick County Council onto Morning Ireland to denounce it as sick?

And the Winners are…

Best Politician: Eric Byrne

Best Citizen: Political Thicko

€100 to Eric Byrne’s charity of choice and a €100 to the Thicko to spend on charity, or on buns if he’d prefer.

I’ll write a longer essay explaining our thinking and why we thought that these two were out ahead. In fact that essay is already so long that it has been delaying the announcement of the winners for too long now. So I thought I’d let the names out now and follow up with the thinky guff later, for those who are intereseted.

Congratulations to both contributors.

Many thanks to everyone who sent in a video (or had one co-opted). We’re not gone away, now that the competition has ended. I think that VoteTube might have a few good ideas to share over the next two months. In the meantime, if you’d like your video here, feel free to send the link to the usual address.

What next for VoteTube?

The shadowy ‘monads’ who control VoteTube had a meeting on the future of the site, and of the VoteTube competition. They’ve decided to award two prizes of €100 each. One will go to a citizen, the other to a politician (the politician’s money to be donated to their charity of choice).

There’ll be another meeting early next week to draw up the Shortlists. I’ll publish them here, and then the winner will go up on Friday 22nd June.

After the competition, I think there is still a place for a VoteTube site. We’ll be trying to find a good way to encourage people to express their views. I anticipate, maybe unfairly, that there will be fewer politicians contributing now that the votes have been cast.

UPDATE: Oh dear. The inconvenient threads of everyday life intervened this week. Apologies to everyone waiting on tenterhooks. You can take it that all the above has been pushed to next week. Sorry again.

I was sent this one last week, but it fell out of my head before now. Apologies for the delay.

FF in Donegal: a lot said, but more to say

Fianna Fáil’s candidates proclaim their love for each other over the course of eight and a half minutes. In Donegal they clearly make their seconds count as here each one drags by like an eternity.

Jim “wrong way” McDaid, Mary Coughlan, Pat the Cope Gallagher, Cecilia Keavney. Together with the newly reunited Niall Blaney, Fianna Fáil hold five of the six seats in the two Donegal constituencies. Somebody’s not coming back. Place your bets now.

We’ve seen him in a field, in a basement and on the street. Now in an epic, detail packed, 9 minute video, he sets out his full stall to voters in Kerry and Cork.
